If you hold a Bilt card and use Flexible Bilt Cash mode, Bilt is switching it off on your card anniversary. You get one chance to keep it, and the choice is permanent.
Most cardholders should let it go. A few shouldn’t. The difference is one number: how much you put on the card each month compared with your rent.
What Bilt announced
Bilt’s October 27 program update leads with a prize game that dangles $1,000,000 toward a home. The line that actually moves money sits further down: Bilt is “retiring Flexible Bilt Cash mode, which earns 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend.”
Starting on your card account anniversary, everyone moves to Housing-only rewards, which pays “up to 1.25X points on rent or mortgage.” To keep Flexible, you opt out of the new benefits in your card settings before that date. Bilt’s terms for staying: you keep your eligible annual credits, and you “won’t be able to switch” modes again.
Translation: keep Flexible now and you’re stuck with it, even if your spending drops next year.
Run your own ratio
Housing-only ties your rent multiplier to everyday card spend in each billing cycle. Spend 25% of your rent and you get 0.5X. At 50%, 0.75X. At 75%, 1X. At 100% or more, 1.25X.
Flexible pays 4% of everyday spend in Bilt Cash. You then redeem Bilt Cash to unlock points on rent: “Every $30 of Bilt Cash you redeem means 1,000 Bilt Points,” capped at 1X of rent.
Here’s what that does on $2,000 rent:
| Card spend (non-rent) | Housing-only | Flexible Bilt Cash |
|---|---|---|
| $500 | 1,000 points | $20 Bilt Cash, about 667 points |
| $1,000 | 1,500 points | $40 Bilt Cash, about 1,333 points |
| $1,500 | 2,000 points | $60 Bilt Cash, 2,000 points |
| $3,000 | 2,500 points | 2,000 points plus $60 Bilt Cash left over |
Below 75% of your rent, Housing-only pays more and needs no monthly redeeming. Above 100%, Flexible can pay more, but only if you actually spend the leftover Bilt Cash.
The catch for Bilt Cash hoarders
Bilt Cash used to reset at year-end. Now each dollar expires at the end of the month, 12 months after you earn it. Hotel redemptions also drop from monthly to twice a year starting January 1, 2027, capped at $50 to $200 a time depending on your status or card. Stockpiling for one big hotel stay just got harder.
What to do this week
Open the Bilt app and find your card anniversary date. Pull your last three statements and add up the non-rent spending. Divide that by your monthly rent.
If the number sits under 75%, do nothing. The switch helps you.
If it’s well over 100% every month and you redeem your Bilt Cash, opt out before your anniversary. Not after.
Somewhere between 75% and 100%? Let it switch. Keeping Flexible locks you in for a small edge you might not get next year.

The detail
The 4% rate, the $30 per 1,000 points, and the Housing-only tiers come from Bilt’s card page as of October 28, 2026. Palladium cardholders on the new benefits get one $600 annual Bilt Cash credit in place of the old $200 Bilt Cash and $400 hotel credit, and Obsidian’s $100 hotel credit becomes $100 of Bilt Cash. Both now post on your card anniversary instead of January 1. Doctor of Credit’s write-up says new applicants approved in 2027 won’t get Flexible mode at all.
